Why we started EverydaySecurity
A family member called me and said, “I got scammed.”
He had searched for a customer service phone number and reached a scammer, who convinced him to install remote access software and buy $1,000 in gift cards.
The systems meant to protect him saw nothing unusual. His security software saw an app he chose to install. His bank would have seen a transaction he approved.
That’s social engineering: manipulating people into taking actions that appear legitimate to security systems.
We started EverydaySecurity to give banks and small businesses visibility into scam activity their existing systems often miss, so they can investigate and respond with more context.
